Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to launch in Spring 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to the Rockstar Games newswire.

Rockstar claim that this is their very first game that will be created ‘from the ground up’ for the latest generation of consoles. As a result of this, Rockstar says that they need some extra time to ensure that it can deliver the goods - literally and metaphorically!

Commenting on the delay, Rockstar said they are 'very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready.

'We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer. In the meantime, please enjoy this selection of new screenshots from the world of Red Dead Redemption 2.'

What We Know About The Game So Far…

Read Dead Redemption 2 was initially announced back in October 2016, after Rockstar published a few cheeky images in the theme and colour of the classic Red Dead Redemption style. These images sparked chaos on social media with fans clutching at straws in the hopes that is was in fact the RDR2 release we’ve all been waiting for.

We can tell the game is set in the West of America during the legendary ages where people had naught but their grit to survive the harsh reality that even nature wanted them dead.

We even got a sneak-peak (question mark?) at the map for RDR2. An image of the alleged Red Dead Redemption 2 world map was posted on NeoGAF and Reddit. This was no big deal, until the map was seemingly verified by TechRadar. They said that through their ‘independent source’, that this is indeed the entire explorable area.

The area features the map from Red Dead Redemption, and this has lead to overwhelming speculation that the upcoming game is in fact a prequel.

A Reddit post also announced an alleged leak that there will be three playable characters in the game, similar to GTA V. Like this feature, we also know RD Online will take inspiration from GTA V Online.

We also know that Rockstar agreed a deal with Sony and PlayStation which means that PS4 players are going to get online DLC exclusives, and they’re going to bring the original RDR to its PlayStation Now service. I would suggest that Xbox ‘feel the burn’ but they’re used to PS4 drowning in exclusives.

… Still More Questions Than Answers

Unfortunately, with more information comes more confusion. Rockstar hit us with the announcement we always wanted - there will be a second game. However the most impactful element of the tweet was the image featuring a Magnificent 7-esque line up.

Who the hell are those guys? Is one of them John Marston? Is he even in the game, if so is he one of the three playable characters? Why only 3 if there are seven men? Does that mean they could be the bad guys we should be running from? Are WE the bad guys?!

Unfortunately, only time will tell - and Rockstar have given us a little bit of extra time to pull our hair out and come up with odd conspiracy theories about how the game may also feature Kingdom Hearts 3 and Half Life 3… Who knows?

In case you've been living under a rock, here's the trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 on Rockstar's YouTube Channel.
